Each year, the Friends of the Redwood Libraries present an award to a member of the community for outstanding service to our libraries, literacy, and the cause of reading. The 2026 Frances Rapin Community Service Award honors the Humboldt County Children's Author Festival Committee for their more than 50 years of putting on the Author Festival.
The award comes as a donation of $2,000 to the Library in the name of the award winner, who decides how the donation will be spent.
The League of Women Voters of Humboldt County, a non-partisan organization dedicated to informed citizenry, presented their Award for Civic Contribution to The Humboldt County Children’s Author Festival at their 2023 State of the Community luncheon. Each year the LWV requests recommendations from the public and selects honorees after considering many nominations. A recent League newsletter states that “Our community is full of hard working people and organizations with similar missions to that of the LWV, making democracy work.”
We are pleased to accept the 2019 CATE (California Association of Teachers of English) Award of Merit. This award recognizes outstanding contributions of organizations toward the improvement of teaching English/language arts in California. The statewide award will be presented at the February Annual Convention in Los Angeles!
